CHALK OUTLINE

2007

Drawing inspiration from the chalk outlines used in crime scenes to delineate evidence, Piet Van explores the intriguing concept of envisioning such outlines with the iconic figures of Salvador Dalì or Marilyn Monroe. In this imaginative exploration, the artist contemplates how these legendary personalities would be represented within the context of forensic investigations. While it is customary to accompany such depictions with corresponding numbers to identify different elements, Piet Van consciously diverges from this convention. The juxtaposition of aesthetic considerations against the conceptual foundation prompts him to depart from the inclusion of numbers, creating a thought-provoking tension between form and meaning in his works.
