MARBLE STATUE
1982 - 1997
Belgium
Carving a marble statue was a lifelong dream of Piet. He was able to realize this challenge thanks to baroness Cécile Vlerick. Contrary to painting or drawing, where one adds a substance to a carrier, one takes the marble away while carving. Without study or preparations, Piet cut the statue with challenging elements as hands and a sphere.

Such works were essential in his development and philosophy behind his future sculptures in other materials.
