Building upon his previous animal-themed paintings on canvas, Piet Van embarks on a new artistic endeavor, integrating animal elements into his latest works. Describing them as a form of self-study or experimentation, these pieces serve as a catalyst for his larger project exploring the realm of genetic engineering.

One notable example within this body of work is a pencil drawing portraying a man inserting his head into the posterior of a cow—an unconventional self-portrait that triggered the conceptual spark for Piet Van's exploration of genetic engineering. This thought-provoking image propelled him towards contemplating the boundaries of science and the manipulation of genetic codes.
